Yeah so, I'm sorry. We haven't been keeping up with the blog. Sue us. But really if you wanted to see how we were doing, you would've come out to a show, so, either way, fuck it. I don't think anyone really reads anyway right?
Anyway, I just wanted to say, if you're reading this, that's awesome. We've been up to some pretty fucking cool stuff. The music is becoming something that really hits me, and I can tell the other guys are really struck by it as well. There's just something there that wasn't before, some real emotion that I can't really put my finger on. Anyway I'm droning on. The album is finally coming at a reasonable pace, and should be out by the end of the world(discounted price, we'll have to sell em quick bitches!) and it will be nearly as awesome. We're playing middle east again, third time this year at the downstairs. I'm enamoured with that place, there's just something amazing about it, i don't know, i wish I was a writer and could explaiin it to you. Oh shit! I am a writer! You know when you're a kid and you have that magical place? For me it was the toy train museum. I was horriblely obsessed with trains, especially steam engines, and that place was just my mecca. Everyone has a place like that, a favorite bar, a special space, something, and the middle east downstairs is slowly becoming that (for me at least). Hope to see you there Till then, keeping thinkin, keep drinking, and get into a fight. -Jeff P.S. Carl's voice is an act of God. New Song

So talk about a busy last couple months for Sunshine Riot ?!? Here it is monday after a weekend in the studio and might I say that what this new material along with some revised works has just brought a breath of fresh air for us. Finally getting to record Old Soul Blues was a beautiful thing. From the moment of creation I felt that the song was a wonderful new direction for the band to head in. Between Mr. Ortons haunting lyrics and the overall ghostly vibe to the guitar I feel we really out did ourselves. If anything the song proves all you need is a simple idea and little bit of time. It was interesting to say the least to go from this nice slow powerful song to the upbeat demands of Boxcar Cowboy - but were Sunshine Riot we cant be sad all the time! Boxcar not only blew our wonderful producers mind but the end result captured every ounce of energy that we put into creating it. The dance beat pattern to deafening over driven guitar, it has proven to be a favorite to not only us but to everyone that would listen to it. One eight hour session - two fantastically different songs. Great time had by all.
Off to Blazes to play a good old hometown sorta show with the boys from Chowda and Ghost of Otis. Then return to one of our favorite sites - The Middle East with TAB the Band and the Rhode Island favorites Fairhaven.Talk about a night of energy and creativity. Both shows worked out beautifully and reminded us that our hard work is actually paying off. Not to mention our wonderful fans who are there with us through everything. Not only have we been asked back to Blazes but we are also booked for the Middle East downstairs. Jonny said it best in his text to the band - " Welcome to the big leagues boys." And how can I forget this past weekend in the studio again with George. The aim was to attack Rags to Pearl and then go after Sweet Kerosene. I must admit that it took me a couple takes to really get the drums together for Rags. I cant explain it - its not the first time weve recorded it , infact it was the third time weve done it so maybe my sense of confidence got the best of me. Five takes later and a couple cigarettes we got it down only to have the rest of the band fly through there tracks. Oh well - what was to come of the song was well worth the effort. Between the added Piano and gritty bass we managed to accomplish a totally original version of the song that has been dying to show its ugly face. Half way through it was time for Sweet Kerosene and I came at it with a sick case of vengeance. George said the first take was it but due to my superstition I never take the first take . George was nice enough to let me give it another crack with the rule that if it wasnt better then the first it was over and I had to throw in the towel. So I kicked the songs ass the second time around and both Nick and George told me that I had nailed it and there was no topping it. Shakes 1 - Nerves 0. It felt good as a drummer who puts his heart and soul into every movement to have a man whose made a living with music ( as well as a man who only compliments me with sarcasm ) tell me that I had surprised them. What ended up coming out of Nicks soloing was perfect. The highs and lows of the song move swimmingly to Jonnys painful lyrics and the bass chugging by Swamp Thing sewed the song together. The song has this passive aggressive sense of rage makes you question self worth as much as it makes you see the beauty in life . So how did we do ? I think the direction Sunshine Riot is heading in is the right one - what say you? Are our days of teen angst and three chord punk rock fuck you and the horse you rode in on songs more your thing? Or is this group of four guys who have no business writing beautiful music actually writing heart driven - rock oriented with a slap of country type mature music ? As for me , and I'm only the drummer, the last two months has brought a sense of new life to Sunshine Riot that we were desperately reaching out for and maybe that is why our music has taken the angle that it has. We've always known we wanted it - and now this Sunshine Riot version 2.0 is done with waiting for things to happen and finally MAKING them happen. 2011 is the year of Sunshine Riot - I can feel it. - Brian 'Shakes" Tvelia Drums New Songs!!!!!
